BC Invitational

The BC (Brisbane-Canberra) Invitational is a tournament shared between Firestorm and Fyshwick United (of Canberra). The leaders of both clubs had a similar idea at a similar time in 2008: an elite invitational warm-up tournament in the Nationals season. After a period of discussion, the BC Invitational was born.

The concept for this tournament is simple. It is an 8 team elite invitational tournament. Firestorm and Fyshwick United receive one invitation each by default; the remaining 6 bids are at the discretion of the hosts, with the aim of holding the most elite tournament possible.
Ideally, a Women’s division is also held, where Brisbane and Canberra women’s teams each receive one invitation by default (per city), and the remaining 6 bids are allocated as above.
In even years, the tournament will be held in Brisbane and hosted by Firestorm. In odd years, Fyshwick United will host the tournament in Canberra. This system has been designed to fit in with the AFDA Nationals rotation policy to balance out travel requirements between years.
